Stress

Stress represents our body's natural response to pressure and challenging circumstances. Numerous situations and life events can trigger stress responses, particularly when we encounter unfamiliar or unexpected experiences that challenge our sense of security, or when we perceive limited control over our circumstances. Individual responses to stress vary considerably across different people.

When experiencing stress, individuals may notice several distinct emotional and psychological symptoms. These frequently include feelings of irritability, anger, impatience, or a general sense of being wound up. Many people report feeling overburdened or completely overwhelmed by their circumstances.

Individuals should consider consulting their GP when stress becomes unmanageable or significantly impacts their well-being. Medical attention is particularly advisable when feeling completely overwhelmed, experiencing adverse effects on physical health, finding that stress symptoms persist despite implementing stress management techniques, or relying on recreational substances or alcohol as coping mechanisms. When conversations with family and friends prove insufficient, consulting a GP or professional counsellor may provide additional support.
